Shopify's agentic readiness audit — and what a store audit adds
Searching for Shopify's agentic readiness audit? At shopify.com/agentic-readiness, Shopify offers what its page titles a "Product Page Audit for Agentic Commerce": per the page, it checks "your product page for the structured data that AI agents read to answer shoppers' questions", and it calls what it checks "informational signals" that "do not guarantee your products will be surfaced by AI agents". AgentReady, at agentready.market, is an independent audit with a different scope: the path an AI shopping agent takes from your store's front door to its checkout, on any platform, with the same checks for every store, re-scannable on demand (free scans come with a monthly allowance; Pro is unlimited and re-scanned daily) and ranked in a public index. On Shopify the two answer different questions: theirs is about a product page, ours is about the path an order takes.
The verdict
Shopify's audit reads a product page's structured data, from the platform that also runs Shopify Catalog and Agentic Storefronts, which makes it a sensible first check for a Shopify merchant. AgentReady audits the path an order takes up to checkout, on any platform: access for shopping agents (bot protection included), offer data, variants, returns and shipping and the transaction rails, and it records whether the cart and checkout answer a shopping agent. Its score is deterministic and versioned, and stores are ranked in a public index that shows each store's latest scan, which anyone can re-run; Pro stores are re-scanned daily.
Last reviewed 2026-10-09. Shopify's column quotes its own page at shopify.com/agentic-readiness, read on the date above. Its description of the audit is short, so where it doesn't say something, the table says so instead of guessing. We have not run Shopify's tool.
Best for
- Shopify's audit — Shopify merchants checking their product page's structured data, on a platform whose page says Shopify Catalog structures product data automatically and Agentic Storefronts shows products in ChatGPT, Gemini and more, enabled automatically for eligible stores (terms apply)
- AgentReady — any store on any platform, Shopify included, that needs to know whether shopping agents can get in, read the offer and find the buy action — with the fixes ranked by points gained per unit of effort, a score you can re-measure (daily on Pro) and a rank among other stores
Side by side
| What gets checked | Shopify's audit | AgentReady |
|---|---|---|
| Who runs it | Shopify, the commerce platform | Villepinte Studio (NL), independent of any platform, CDN or payment provider |
| What you enter | "your website URL" | A store URL |
| Stores on other platforms | Not stated on the page. We have not tested a non-Shopify URL in it | Any platform, with the same checks (see /platforms); the product-feed check gives full credit only to Shopify's products.json today |
| What one scan reads | Per the page, "your product page"; it asks for "your website URL" and doesn't say how many pages a scan reads or how the product page is found | The URL you give, robots.txt, a product page found from it, the agent files and the cart and checkout doors. A separate Pro catalog-coverage run samples up to 8 product pages across the catalog |
| Product structured data | Yes: "the structured data that AI agents read to answer shoppers' questions". The page lists no fields and no check count | Field by field: Product JSON-LD, price and currency, availability, brand, identifier (SKU/GTIN), reviews; structured variants and attributes |
| Shopping agents blocked by bot protection, a CDN or a firewall | Not described on the page | Your homepage fetched live as AI crawlers (Access pillar) and as shopping agents (ChatGPT-User, Claude-User, Perplexity-User, Meta-ExternalFetcher, AmazonBuyForMe; a separate probe shown in the report). A robots.txt that blocks every AI crawler we check, or a firewall or CDN that turns one away, caps the score at 25; a shopping agent turned away is reported as orders stopping at your door, whatever the score |
| Returns and shipping | Not described on the page | Return policy and shipping details read from the offer data, and whether shipping and returns pages are linked from the homepage |
| Transaction rails | Not described on the page, which promotes Agentic Storefronts, "enabled automatically for eligible stores" | UCP endpoint probed with a JSON-RPC handshake, A2A Agent Card, ARD catalog |
| Cart and checkout | No cart or checkout check described; the page's checkout mentions are about Shopify's own checkout ("From discovery to checkout, Shopify runs it all") | /cart and /checkout fetched as a shopping agent to see whether they answer (stored with every scan and in the census data, never scored; the report doesn't display it yet). No order, no cart line, no payment |
| What a result means | "informational signals" that "do not guarantee your products will be surfaced by AI agents". The page doesn't say what form the result takes | A deterministic /100 stored with its scoring version: a readiness measure, not a promise of sales |
| Re-measured and ranked | Not described on the page | Scanned stores ranked in the public AgentReady.market Index (the latest scan of each, and anyone can re-scan), a dated monthly census with open data (/census), and Pro stores re-scanned daily |
| Price | The page shows no price for the audit: a URL field and a Scan button. It doesn't say whether results need a Shopify account, and we have not run the tool | Scan free · Pro on /pricing |
FAQ
What does Shopify's agentic readiness audit check?
Per its page, titled "Product Page Audit for Agentic Commerce", it checks "your product page for the structured data that AI agents read to answer shoppers' questions". The page lists no individual fields and no check count, and it calls what it checks "informational signals for your product page that AI agents may use to discover, evaluate, and recommend your products", which "do not guarantee your products will be surfaced by AI agents". That is all the page says about how it checks, and we have not run the tool.
Does Shopify's audit work for WooCommerce, Shopware or other non-Shopify stores?
We don't know. The page asks for "your website URL" and doesn't say whether stores on other platforms are scored, and we have not tested a non-Shopify URL in it. AgentReady runs the same checks on any platform; per-platform guides are at /platforms.
I'm on Shopify. Do I still need a separate audit?
For product data, Shopify's own tools may already cover a lot: its page says Shopify Catalog "automatically structures your product data so AI can find and surface your products", and that Agentic Storefronts shows your products in ChatGPT, Gemini and more, "enabled automatically for eligible stores. Terms apply." The page doesn't describe checks on the rest of the path: whether bot protection turns shopping agents away, whether returns and shipping are machine-readable, whether the cart and checkout answer an agent, how you rank against other stores. What an agent actually calls on a Shopify store: /research/is-my-shopify-store-ready-for-ai-agents.
Can a store pass a product-page check and still lose the order?
Yes. Complete structured data on a product page doesn't help if a bot-protection rule answers shopping agents with a 403, or if the checkout answers them with a challenge page. Our scan looks for both: the access probe fetches your homepage as shopping agents, and the cart and checkout door is recorded on every scan (the door result is stored with each scan and in the monthly census data; the report doesn't display it yet). Our scan stops at the checkout boundary and never places an order. For what other commerce scanners say they check, see /research/agent-readiness-scanner-commerce-compared.
