What the scan reads on a Shopify store

The /products.json feed

Shopify exposes a public product feed at /products.json. The scan fetches and parses it: variants, options (color, size), prices. A valid feed passes the catalog feed check outright and feeds the variant and attribute checks.

Theme JSON-LD

Most themes emit Product/Offer JSON-LD, but coverage varies: price and currency are usually present, identifiers (GTIN, MPN), availability and variant-level offers often are not. The structured-data pillar checks each of these as a separate parseable fact.

robots.txt and WAF posture

The scan reads your robots.txt groups for the AI-agent crawler class and probes whether bots get the page humans get. Blanket-blocking agent crawlers caps the score — an agent that can't get in can't buy.

Transaction rails

The forward-looking pillar probes the emerging agent-commerce endpoints on your domain — UCP agent endpoint, A2A Agent Card, ARD AI Catalog — plus add-to-cart and checkout markers.

Can Meta's Muse or Google's Gemini already buy on my Shopify store?

Very possibly, without you doing anything. On September 21, 2026 Shopify announced agentic checkout with Meta's Muse through Shop Pay, via the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), "on all Shopify stores". From September 22, Google began completing purchases inside AI Mode and the Gemini app for eligible US Shopify stores by default (Sales channels → Agentic in your admin to opt out), and Google Analytics does not fire on those orders. Being switched on is not the same as an agent getting through: it still has to read your price, variants and stock — which is what the audit measures.

Does Shopify make my store agent-ready by default?

It makes it reachable, not ready. The built-in /products.json feed, theme JSON-LD and, since September 2026, platform-level agentic checkout give an agent a way in — but an agent that can't parse identifiers, availability, variant-level offers or your policies still can't complete the right purchase. Scanned Shopify stores routinely score well on catalog checks and near zero on rails.

Do I need to install an app to be audited?

No. The scan is external and reads public pages only, on your request — nothing to install, no access to your admin, no real purchase ever made.
