Want to know if ChatGPT or Copilot is citing your product pages? As of May 2026, there’s finally a free dashboard for part of that question: Microsoft Clarity Citations, which shows how often your pages get referenced inside AI-generated answers β with one large caveat on which AI you’re actually measuring.
What Clarity Citations shows
Citations moved from preview to general availability on May 13, 2026 (Microsoft Clarity Blog). It’s a no-traffic-limit, free report inside your existing Clarity project that tallies how many times pages from your domain were referenced in AI-generated answers over a selected period, including multiple citations inside the same answer.
Setup is just what you already have if you use Clarity: the standard tracking script, plus domain verification through Bing Webmaster Tools or Google Search Console. No CDN change, no server-side integration.
It sits next to Clarity’s separate AI Bot Activity report, live since January 21, 2026, which tracks crawl hits from GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and others. The distinction matters: Bot Activity tells you who’s fetching your pages; Citations tells you whether that fetching turned into an actual mention in an answer.
The catch: it’s Microsoft’s answers, not everyone’s
Citations only reports references inside Copilot and Bing generative search β it explicitly does not surface citations from ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity, because those platforms don’t share their internal grounding logs with Microsoft. If your traffic mix leans on ChatGPT or Perplexity rather than Copilot, this dashboard will structurally undercount your real AI-citation footprint, even though the underlying content patterns it rewards (clear headers, extractable facts, source-worthy structure) are the same ones that get you cited everywhere else.
Why bother measuring this at all
Clarity’s own research gives the business case. A study published December 18, 2025, analyzing traffic across more than 1,200 publisher and news sites, found visitors referred by AI assistants converting to sign-ups at 1.66%, versus 0.15% from organic search β roughly an 11x gap (Microsoft Clarity Blog, “The Next 5 Years of Clarity”; also reported by PR Newswire). AI-referred traffic is still under 1% of total visits in that dataset, but it arrives pre-qualified by a conversation with the assistant β which is exactly why knowing whether you’re getting cited at all is worth a free dashboard check, even a partial one.
The bigger, blurrier piece: Web IQ
The same week Citations went GA, Microsoft had already published a related but separate move: Web IQ, a suite of “AI-native grounding APIs” announced June 2, 2026 on the Bing Search Blog, built on a re-architected version of Bing’s index specifically for agent retrieval rather than human search results. Microsoft’s own claims β sub-165ms p95 latency and zero data retention, returning passage-level “evidence objects” instead of full pages β are vendor-published and not yet independently verified. More notably, multiple outlets, including TechTimes, report Web IQ already powers grounding inside both Copilot and ChatGPT’s web-search responses β meaning Bing-backed retrieval may quietly be plumbing for OpenAI’s own product. As of early June 2026, Web IQ itself was still waitlist-only with no public pricing or API docs.
What this means for a merchant
Neither of these tools tells you whether an agent can actually complete a purchase on your site β that’s a separate, harder question, and it’s the one AgentReady’s scan is built to answer. But Clarity Citations is a concrete, zero-cost first step: if you already run Clarity, turn it on today and see whether Copilot and Bing are citing you at all. Just don’t mistake a clean Citations report for full AI visibility β it’s one engine’s view, not the whole agentic web, and it says nothing about whether the agent reading your page can also check out.
